High school fires gay teacher to save its ’Catholic identity’

A high school in northern Indianapolis said Sunday that it will cut ties with a gay teacher in order to stay in the city’s archdiocese. The archdiocese announced last week that to ’effectively bear witness to Christ, all ministers in their professional and private lives must convey and be supportive of Catholic Church teaching’.

'All ministers in their professional and private lives must convey and be supportive of Catholic Church teaching.' Didn't seem to bother you lot for the last 50+ years of industrial scale sexual child abuse and grooming

Gayness is contagious! He's using the water fountains! His gay food is in the staff fridge! Jesus said "Cast out the gays!"

If it's entirely a private school, they can do what they want. If they get government funding or even tax breaks then they lose that right. Government should protect bias in its own institutions. Personal liberties only apply to private citizens.

As a teacher myself I am a bit unsure about this story. At the end of the day though a teacher must project professionalism both in their public and private lives. I've heard of teachers being fired for a poorly chosen photo of them drinking showing up on Facebook. If they fired him just because he is gay then yeah I have a problem with that, however the article states the teacher was in a gay marriage. That goes against the Catholic identity of the school and so its no surprise he was fired. Note that a public school could never do this but a private school certainly can. Put simply the man violated his contract that he signed when he was hired.

4.5% of the US population, but if they aren't in every single business or place of worship it's practically a shoah. They should try the Church of Satan, they greet sodomites with open arms.

It's a private, religious institution. I normally don't agree with firing LGBT employees, but being a religious institution, it only makes sense that the employees of that institution should adhere to that institution's standards. There's plenty of schools he could work at with no such policy, both public and private. Most people in lower income teirs don't even get a reason for firing, it just happens. Funny how people still expect any job security whatsoever in 2019.

Alright if the teacher was acting in a gay manner perhaps uncomfortable to the institution then fine it's your right to remove him. However if the teacher was not enacting in any sort of inappropriate behavior and was just fired for the sake of being gay I would contest that your decision was unethical... That is unless the teacher was shit at teaching.
