New Trump order may make more health care prices public

President Trump signed an executive order Monday that will force insurers to disclose how much they pay hospitals for common services and let patients know what they’ll pay before they agree to care. The administration claims that lack of transparency results in artificially high costs. ’We are fundamentally changing the nature of the health care marketplace’, said Trump on the order.

This is a good thing. If hospitals, doctors and clinics are forced to disclose what they charge insurance companies and they are forced to disclose what they will cover beforehand then the customer (ie patient) can choose which company is best for them. The providers can choose which insurance company offers the best return and patients choose which providers have the lowest cost. Next we need insurance companies to be allowed to compete across state lines and to be required to cover any doctors, hospital or clinic the patient chooses

This is actually a great idea. Many times Americans will go in for a procedure and turns out they were billed for items never even discussed.
