Iranian authorities confiscate 1,000 Bitcoin mining machines

Authorities in Iran have confiscated about 1,000 units of Bitcoin (BTC) mining machines from two now-defunct factories. Local authorities noticed a surge in electricity consumption by 7 per cent earlier in June and linked it to cryptocurrency mining activities. Officials subsequently discovered and removed the mining hardware.

I feel like Iran is either A: hunting for a cash source to bypass US sanctions, or B: compiling advanced hardware for government use because suddenly they can’t buy the equipment from foreign nations anymore.
