A retired New York firefighter was among the 9/11 families and responders who watched the pretrial hearings at Guantanamo Bay via closed-circuit television at the Fort Hamilton Army Base.
Mr. Alvarez, I'm sorry you were treated so callously by your country's "leaders". Thank you for your bravery and sacrifice. Shame on you congress!
The people who were in a position to help him and others like him and chose not to are truly vile creatures
I work in a hospital. This man's face and complexion I've only ever seen on the faces of those who are dying and always barely or not conscious in their beds. To go in to court in this condition.... This man was made of steel. I've been in this man's position myself, literally at death's door with this lovely yellowish complexion and closer to death than life. I have absolutely no idea how he managed this. Utterly amazing determination I can only imagine was driven by knowing he needed to provide for his family one last time.
It's sad that 9/11 still makes victims. 2900 died then, 2300 died afterwards and people are still suffering from diseases because of it.
America: "yeah, but like, missiles and stuff are more important sorry"
He will live on as a hero.
To those who take jabs at the US:
1. Yes, we are imperfect - as any other country. Needs fixing, not gloating.
2. Let's not forget what's the root cause of the tragedy. Global Jihad is still a threat.
Just watched his last video earlier, Rest in Peace sir. We will continue the fight. Men and Women like you are the reason I am in academy. You will be missed, and you will not be forgotten. Never forget.
Killary at it again
this was the plan all along keep stalling til the all die...our elected representatives at work
The failure of Congress to ensure these heroes were cared for is nauseating. These people risked their lives, and considering that it was a terrorist attack, I'd say they were the first heroes in the war on terror, along with the "let's roll" passengers of flight 93. This isn't a partisan issue, and John Stewart still has my respect for slamming those congressmen who didn't show up and walked out of that recent hearing. Hell, Steve Buscemi was a firefighter and then a volunteer firefighter as he began his acting career; He grabbed his kit, reported, and worked while refusing photos at ground zero, bc on that day, we were all Americans, and we were at war. I'm sorry this nation allowed our despicable and corrupt Congress to fail you, detective.
I remember seeing interviews with this man over a decade ago. He looks like a corpse in these photos. I hate to render a human being into a symbol, but damn it's hard to deny the symbolism.
