US Census drops citizenship question

The Trump administration dropped a controversial plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, marking a victory for civil rights groups. The Supreme Court recently blocked efforts to include the question. The White House said it will bolster protections for minority voters. But opponents said it would deter immigrant households from taking part in the once-a-decade population count.

I was under the impression that the US census of American citizens was exclusively for American citizens. Why should an area consisting of 1 legal citizen and 99,999 people who shouldn't even be here get the same representation in government as 100,000 legal citizens? That's tantamount to allowing anyone in the country at an arbitrary date vote regardless of legal status or citizenship. That is insanity!

There really isn't a viable argument not to. Your biased, baseless assumption that someone is racist, based off of zero rationale or evidence, does not qualify as a reason to leave the question off.

"...designed to intimidate illegal immigrants and green-card holders from participating." Nobody asked me. I've got a "green-card". I'm not intimidated. I'm paying the tab ($725) this year so I can vote in 2020. Worth every penny.

Umm yeah...the census decides our representation...you need to ensure the people you are counting are citizens...its really not that damn hard.

While I hate that the Citizenship question won't be on the 2020 census I am relatively sure that the President cannot delay the Census...at least beyond a certain point anyway.

Where is Cenk yelling about the will of the American people? Is it “money in politics”, Cenk, that is preventing the will of the people on this? Yeah Cenk is not going to address this.

This is ridiculous. Citizenship has been a question on all but one of the censuses conducted in US history. It NEEDS to be on there now more than ever.

Why the fuck would you have illegals taking the census anyways? Clearly it would throw the whole thing off, sanctuary city's will have millions of illegals on it and will then require more American tax money to help fund these people.

Definitely wouldnt be put in a database and used to send workers to concentration camps. Nope.

Well since Democrats want illegals to be counted, I might as well skew the numbers and add 20 or so names I picked randomly from the nearest cemetery as part of my household. 😁

It wouldn't have mattered if the question was added or not because answering the question isn't mandatory, so literally both legal citizens and illegal can avoid the question and nothing would happen anyway
