Volcano erupts in Italian tourist island of Stromboli

A volcano on the Italian island of Stromboli erupted on Wednesday, killing a hiker, throwing ash high into the sky and enveloping the popular tourist destination in smoke. Rescue services said the eruption started fires on the western side of the small Mediterranean island north of Sicily. Fire crews were being called in from nearby locations and a firefighting plane was already in action.

Flying that firefighting plane would be dangerous, because if they fly too close and the engines ingest any volcanic ash, they might as well be ingesting microscopic razor blades... that also get sticky when hot... so razor-sharp hot-glue that slices what it sticks to!
