Citizenship question may be re-added to census 2020

The Trump administration is facing ’limited paths forward’ as lawyers explore options for adding a controversial citizenship question to the 2020 census after the Supreme Court ruled against it last week. Trump may issue an executive order or add the question as a supplement with the upcoming census, which is already being printed, but nothing is confirmed at this point.

Can someone explain to me why is citizenship question controversial? It's the most basic thing, if you don't live in that country, you have no political power there.

So after the Supreme court blocked it he's going to think about using executive orders to get it done anyway? Oh boy, I can't wait for the lawsuits...hopefully by Friday they try to come up with a better reason for adding the question besides making stuff up
