Armed Utah teachers practice responding to school shootings

Armed Utah teachers practice responding to school shootings

Over 30 teachers in Utah decided to come together and attend an active shooter training class involving the use of a concealed weapon. Utah is a state that allow licensed concealed carry holder to carry their weapon into schools. Some experts do not agree with the arming of teachers and say that teachers should not step into law enforcement roles especially during stressful situations.

The funny thing is that the places where this is practiced are very unlikely to have a school shooting anyways.

Took long enough, any public or even private worker should at least be trained in first aid and self defense.

Some “experts” agree dead kids are better than armed civilians. Good on Utah and good on those teachers!

This can have only good consequences, right? Loaded guns in schools?

Firstly it’s a huge shame that this has to happen, secondly- and most importantly, if this makes some thug think twice about shooting kids and if it saves the life of just one child, I’m all in for it.

Imagine the kind of people who woudnt defend children. Now imagine a system where those people cant qualify as teachers.

Guns are not bad.We need to expose kids to guns more so they know that guns must be treated with respect. It is ridiculous to not allow kids to even touch a gun, then make a storm when a kid shoots himself or someone. We also need to focus on mental health. As long as the teachers are responsible I have no issue.Back long ago in America everyone had guns and even kids and nothing crazy happened.Guns aren’t the issue people are.

There is going to be some opposition to this, a lot towards teachers preforming roles some regulate to law enforcement. The big problem there is it takes time for cops to respond to a situation. Until they get there the only people handling said situation are those elbow deep in it. This is one of the main arguments for right to carry: the fact that it takes time to call the cops, and even more time for them to get there. A response time of 1 minute could be too long in a shooting situation, so you HAVE to respond to these situations yourself if they happen to you.

Awesome. The most unsafe places are gun free zones.

maybe now that crackhead will think twice before holding up class for two days asking what the teacher just did, for the other five crackheads asking the same thing

Am I the only one uncomfortable with kids being taught by adults who are willing to shoot them if they pull a gun? Teachers aren't soldiers, they shouldn't have to be keeping a constant vigil out for a school shooter. They should be focused on teaching. Hire a few security guards to be in the school who's job it is to be ready for it. Our politicians don't have to carry a gun, why should teachers? Also, Mr Barnett is leaning over the desk teaching little Suzy her times tables and Dominic the troubled teen sees the gun on his hip. Or, Mr Barnett has had a *very* stressful day. His rent is overdue, his bills are on final notice, his wife just filed for divorce and the school may be getting rid of him and little Timmy is throwing a tantrum and just hit him with a coffee cup......only takes one second for a teacher, already in one of the most underpaid and overstressed jobs in the country to snap.

Right... thank you "experts". In a stressful situation, these teachers shouldn't step into a law enforcement role, they should just watch while their students and they themselves are murdered. No way. Blaze of Glory, if nothing else.

"teachers should not stepinto law enforcement roles." the parkland shooter shot so many cause law enforcement refused to step in. I say arm them.
