Over 20 countries sign UN letter telling China to free detained Uighur Muslims

22 countries have called on China to cease incarceration of ethnic Uighurs in the Xinjiang region, the first acknowledgement on the issue at the U.N. Human Rights Council. Countries such as Australia, Britain, France, Germany and Japan – co-signed the letter released Wednesday. Reuters quotes a diplomat saying China’s response was ’hopping mad’ and that they are preparing their own statement.
