Trump decides to drop citizenship question

After days of strongly fighting to add the citizenship question to Census 2020, the Trump administration said on Thursday that they will be dropping the question altogether in the interest of time. The administration would collect citizenship data from federal agencies instead. This was originally recommended to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

This is fucking hilarious. They should have just let him put the question on there, now we're going to get an even more accurate count of the number of people. Well played Trump.

never made sense to add it to the census. the census needs to be as accurate as possible and adding such a question would just fuck up the response rate. there are better ways to count non citizens that doesnt mess with our once in a decade census.

This is horrible precedent. Every census in history save one has had this question on some form of the questionnaire. It is absolutely necessary to ensure that the respondents are US citizens. That is what we are counting. This is not a census of other country's citizens. The census information is impossible to preform without this basic information.

executive overreach is getting out of hand. you really want to know perform a survey separate from the census
