Prosecutors seek higher sentence for Chauvin in Floyd death

Prosecutors seek higher sentence for Chauvin in Floyd death

Prosecutors are asking a judge to give Derek Chauvin a more severe penalty than what state guidelines call for, arguing that George Floyd was particularly vulnerable and that Chauvin abused his authority as a police officer. Chauvin has been convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter

Unbelievable. He shouldn’t have been convicted of the other charges. The jury only did it because they were scared of retribution.

Sure, why not. Gave them everything else they wanted already, why not just give him the death penalty? I'm sure that'll stop BLM from burning down cities and bring all the cops back.

His sentence will last until the appeals process. This was a failed trial, by a failed prosecution team (starting with inappropriate charges and going through ignoring direct guidance by the judge with penalty of mistrial), failed jury (allowing intimidation to force them to ignore the law). This is a case of trial by media in spite of evidence.

And this serves what purpose, exactly? Chauvin is 45 now, even if he gets just 25 years, he’d be 70 by the time he gets out... you don’t think that is enough time to think about his actions? You don’t think that’s long enough for a non-violent criminal to be punished? Or is that just not long enough to appease the masses and turn him into one while you’re at it.

Yes, please just speed up the proces of USA carcas decomposition so that people can finally realise how leftist police worke when Biden finally legislates it with a Presidential order. Can't wait for the woke middle and upper class to experience what happend during Soviet and Chinese revolution.

What in the name of drug addicts is going on here? They've already ruined the man's life, isn't that enough? I mean even if this is overthrown (and it will be), his life is worthless now anyway? This does not look good for the Waters team.

Judging from his past (which should not affect this trial) he got what he deserved. However, this trail should worry everyone. Intimidation of the jury and prosecutor is wrong. Trial by media is wrong. Statements by high elected officials during the trial is wrong. People have to remember that the ends do not justify the means. One day those means can and will be used against you.

Just wondering tho how can he be guilty of all three one of those charges requires him to have intentionally killed him while the other two are unintentionally how can it be both unintentional and intentional.....just wondering

Maxine Watters warned you. They won't stop rioting unless Chauvin get's charged for 1st degree murder. Even the prosecutors are probably being intimidated right now because they didn't requested death penalty for Chauvin and his coworkers. I'm just wondering if the judge can still do the right thing at this point and call this clownshow a mistrial. Maybe it's too late, idk.

I think 40 years is enough tbh. Any other charges is just excessive and pointless really.

It was never about justice or Floyd... it was about pinning someone against a wall through a monkey trial... death to the 4th amendment i guess... (ps one of the people on jury came forward and talked about how bias he was going in to the trial and how the brothers testimony made his decision for him.. despite that not being pertinent to the case.... screw evidence i guess)

He probably deserves a higher sentence, but honestly I just want this to be done. He'll be rotting in jail for most of the rest of his life, that's good enough for me.

It's pretty gross for so many commenters here to think that a sequestered jury was intimidated. One of the jurors even said that every day in court felt like a funeral for floyd, so they were most assuredly NOT automatically on the cops side like in most juries. And for so many of you to complain about ONE cop FINALLY facing consequences is highly disturbing. To call him a sacrificial lamb is disgusting. Yes, chauvins life is ruined. He MURDERED somebody. Why does "tough on crime" not apply to you when you put on a badge and take a taxpayer funded paycheck? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes.

I know I'm an idiot and not a lawyer but isn't there this thing "double jeopardy" where you can't be tried twice for the same crime or was that just an Ashley Judd movie
