New Zealanders hand over 10,000-plus guns and weapons

Following the Christchurch killing, New Zealand passed a law that banned a lot of semi-automatic weapons. Over 10,000 guns have been handed back by New Zealanders as a part of the ongoing buy back program. More than 2,000 people have surrendered 3,275 guns and 7,827 parts, and in return they been paid more than NZ$6m (£3.25m) to compensate them.

This reminds me of a quote by annon “A wolf attacks a sheep. The sheep dies. Other sheep observe the killing and notice that teeth kill sheep. The sheep remove their own teeth for their own safety” or something along those lines.

Quite a good way of unloading a few of your unwanted guns for cash to make room in your cabinet for the good ones I suppose.

10,000 sounds like a lot but even in NZ there are an estimated 1 to 1.5 MILLION guns. That's between 0.65 and 1 percent of guns. So when they tout this figure as a big success, it really isn't anything of the sort.
