Angry Orchard apologizes after allegations of racial bias

Angry Orchard has issued an apology and fired a manager at its Hudson Valley cidery following allegations of racial bias against black patrons. Cathy-Marie Hamlet alleged that white security employees at the Walden cider garden interrupted her fiance as he was proposing to her Sunday, accusing him of stealing a T-shirt. In a statement, Angry Orchard said the situation was ’badly mishandled’.

The security wasn't racist. They were notified by patrons and staff that they saw the man steal a shirt, likely he was fiddling with the ring in his back pocket. Security was investigating a claim of theft, which is their job. If anyone profiled them it was likely the patrons or the staff. Not to mention, they brought race intonthe issue, stating they were chased out of the establishment, despite earlier saying they left and security followed them to ask about the shirt. Bad timing, Bad Tip, Race Card, all present, but racism? Doubt it. People really sensitive. Also I doubt the legality of security going through bags. Walmart isnt even technically allowed to see your reciept as it is now your property after payong for your goods. The situation should have been to review footage following the claim, and filing a police report, but given thenshirt was probably $30, police would have shrugged it off, as its simply a misdemeanor.
