According to the first-of-its-kind study from the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Technology and Society, those incidents included physical threats, stalking and sustained harassment. The survey also found that many online gamers were exposed to extremist ideologies & hateful propaganda.

The number of times I've been insulted, demeaned, and belittled while playing games online is innumerable. I couldn't give a shit though because I'm not a fragile porcelain doll. If you can't take the bants, get offline.

Sounds like a subjective term being used to describe a subjective action. I fail to see the news here.

In Overwatch I tend to get the nastiest comments from my teammates when I'm the MVP. It makes their insecurity pretty transparent. Also hilarious getting called bad by opponents... after beating the shit out of them. If I'm bad, then you're worse. Eventually you learn to tune out the whining.

Anonymity breeds obnoxious behaviour by default. How many of us do things behind the wheel we wouldn't do if the other driver was face to face. It's all relative anyway. What one person describes as harassment another shrugs off as playful banter. What's the bet this article was deliberately sensationalised to sell more crappy advertising clicks. I take absolutely everything these bullshit artists say with a bag of salt.

Trash talking is normal in video games. This will be used to stifle freedom of speech.

Depends on the game, examples are; Destiny is friendly, invites to do Nightfalls and Raids, team work stuff. In GTA V you will get shot by a random while you are trying to enter a clothing store, get called a "bitch ass nigger", told you live in your mothers basement and receive a running commentary of what they are doing to your mother.
