16 Marines arrested on charges ranging from human smuggling to drugs

16 Marines arrested at California’s Camp Pendleton for involvement in a human and drug trafficking, according to the Marine Corps. They were arrested Thursday morning by division officials and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service during battalion formation. Earlier this month two active-duty Marines were arrested for allegedly smuggling a trio of illegal immigrants near the US-Mexico border.

Just supplimenting their income. We hold the institutions up as shining examples and forget they are made up of people. Most are worthy and do their best but there are always some who will tarnish what they swore to honor. My son is an ex-Marine who served in Iraq and a better example of what the corps stands for could not be found.

I'm sure a few of them will write books about it.

That's pretty rare. There's probably substantial evidence to warrant such a display.

Special Ops ends up picking up the slack when the conventional military pulls out. Special Forces (the green berets) are far larger than the SEALs, bc their job is to conduct irregular warfare in that grey area between Diplomacy & Intelligence, and open conflict. The SEALs have been forced to fill this role as well, as has MARSOC. The Tier 1 JSOC units have been run ragged for over 15 years now on kill capture raids. The attrition of and demand for more of these operations, has both required faster deployment for new members, increasingly inexperienced troops being fed into these units with no prior militar experience, and has exhausted the experienced guys. We've run our entire special operations community at the redline for going on 20 years now, and it's going to bite us in the ass. These forces are crucial to effective foreign policy, but overusing them has consequences.

Perhaps, having recruitment open their doors to anyone and lowering the standards of conduct has consequences that are more imoral than barring select demographics. Hmmmmm.
