11-month-old twins die after being left in car as ’dad forgot them’

Father forgot his 11-month-old boy and girl in his Honda Accord on Friday morning as he went to work at a New York City hospital. The twins died after eight hours in the car and the father Juan Rodriguez, 37, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter for each child.

I'm always highly skeptical that these people "forgot" the kid(s) are in the back seat. You drive some distance and never use the rear view mirror which should show they are in the back seat? They never make a sound? Even when you make ask the noises of parking and exiting the vehicle? You're wearing blinders and have no peripheral vision to see them as you exit? Always smells like bull snot to me. Always sounds like an adult making the horrible decision that they just don't have time to deal with what needs taking care of... Their mother loving progeny. Strap the selfish jack wad into a metal box and leave him in the sun for at least a week. It's totally fine if you forget about him.

That is just plain awful for all concerned. Not everyone else’s responsibility- but no one heard or saw them there all day?

A lot of people in the comment section have no idea how your brain works. Your brain is addicted to patterns if you get too addicted to something as simple as driving to work and going to work by yourself. If your pattern is interrupted with something like 'take your kids to school first,' if you have quiet children it can be very easy for your brain to set you right back into your normal pattern and have you forget your child.

Not buying it. How do you strap your kids in, bring them all the way to work, park, and then work the whole day without ever thinking about your children once. Like, holy hell.

The dad should get double life sentences as a start, then start adding child abuse, negligence and every other crime to the wrap sheet.

People really need to take some sort of test before they become parents.

Why do all these vermin think saying they forgot their kids is a reasonable excuse?

My daughter is very quiet alot of the time, especially early in the morning. I csn see how this guy forgot they were there. Maybe having an off day, supposed to take the kids to school, then driving to work and forgetting entirely about it. I could believe it maybe if the father was having life issues or something and just got into a habitual drive and walk into work. I would think you would snap out of it at some point though and realize... No decent father wpild deliberatly try and kill his kids this way, its just too risky. I believe he genuinly forgot. Its a far cry from going into a store for a minute with the car off like alot of people have been gotten for. Either this man was teying to kill his kids or genuinly forgot them.

I won't say I don't believe it's possible he forgot his kids...but I don't get it. Even if your kid is asleep I just can't imagine ever forgetting my kid in the car.

It is the responsibility of a parent to take care of their crotch goblins.

The thought that he was deliberately trying to kill his kids didn't even occur to me. I don't like the "I forgot" excuse because as a father myself, that just tells me he didn't love his kids. Plain and simple.

As a dad, having twins myself, I can't imagine forgetting my kids. my boys are the most precious in my life. you can take away all, but not my kids.. there is no way to forget them. I would say, this man hasn't had his priorities sorted out.

This nearly happened to some one who worked on Toy Story 2. They were all working over time and were very tired. Apparently the guy had to look after the baby for the day, but was so tired, he forgot about it. However he remembered in time. So, it does happen, but obviously it can be used as a way to kill of unwanted child and pretend it was a accident.
