Indian government to revoke Kashmir’s special status

Modi government proposed to withdraw the special status of the disputed territory of Kashmir and split the state in two, following a security crackdown in Indian-administered Kashmir. The move may face major resistance in the Muslim-majority state. Kashmiri leaders were placed under house arrest, internet and phone coverage was cut, public gatherings were banned and schools closed.
