Hiroshima marks 74th anniversary of atomic bombing

Today marks the 74th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Its mayor Kazumi Matsui called for eliminating such weapons and demanding Japan’s government do more. In his peace address on Tuesday he raised concerns about the rise of self-centered politics in the world and urged leaders to steadily work toward achieving a world without atomic weapons.

It's the bomb's fault, not your military refusing to surrender, the rape of nanking, telling your own civilians to commit suicide, treatment of POWs... oh and fire bombing your wooden cities killed more just fyi.

It's a tragedy, but it was done to prevent a bigger tragedy.

We dropped pamplets warning of the coming attack. Officials arrested anyone found with one. We warned civilians several times.

Irregardless of why the US dropped the atomic bombs on Japan, or the justification of that, the fact remains that nearly everyone living in those two cities tody were not responsible for what their past government did, did not participate in that war, committed no attrocities, and yet are still suffering the radioactive aftereffects from that time period. I don't like that.
