Trump sues California attorney over law requiring candidates to release taxes

Trump and his campaign have filed a lawsuit against California Secretary of State Alex Padilla and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra over a law that requires candidates to release tax returns or not be listed on the state’s presidential primary ballot in 2020. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, argues the law is unconstitutional, breaches First Amendment and restricts state power.

Saw that coming. You can't make up an unconditional law just because you don't like ther candidate. That is by definition discrimination. If you don't like him, don't vote for him.

Should have just made a law that candidates also have to release their emails.

The left wing fruit loops in California are so desperately hoping for a 2020 win they are making up requirements to become President? Just break off from the rest of the US and float away already!!

U.S. Term Limits v. Thornton. Almost without a doubt unconstitutional.

Let's go with this law on condition every Senator and Congress person has to do the same. I'd love to see the tax returns for crooked Maxine Waters as well as Pelosi Schiff, Biden and Collins. I have little doubt there will be much they want to keep hidden. I honestly believe Trump's taxes are above board and he knew the Dems would come for his tax returns. How best to drain the swamp and expose the corruption than to force these scum to push for his tax returns so that he can demand every other politician do the same. If he offers to show his taxes on condition they all do the same, they can hardly refuse or cry foul. The shit is about to hit the fan and Trump is truly playing 4D chess while the rest of them are playing chequers

Good. I seriously couldn't care less what is in the tax returns of candidates. Their policies and views are far more important to me.

This was one of the reasons for the civil war...southern states didn’t have Lincoln on their ballots so when he won southerners realized their votes obviously didn’t matter

Yep... Democrats trying to rig another election in their favor. How did that work out in 2016?

This will come back to bite them in the rear. With so many candidates the chances of something that will be poorly received from the Democrats is much higher than an egotistical individual like Trump having something nefarious.

Why not? What's the fear? I thought we were voting for Trump because he would drain the swamp! Now we are saying his "constitutional rights" prevents transparency? He/She who runs for office should make the information available. If this comes down to red or blue, well, the heck with this republic. Candidates are above the laws and there is no accountability. The swamp just got swampier.

literally anything that so much as challenges a Republican's image triggers rightards to claim freedom of expression. too bad they also supported the anti-BDS bill to condemn the BDS movement. their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
