New U.S. rule to disqualify future welfare recipients from Visa

New U.S. rule to disqualify future welfare recipients from Visa

Donald Trump has passed a new rule to reject visas for failing to meet income standards or for receiving public assistance such as welfare, food stamps, public housing or Medicaid. This, on one hand, can cut economic immigration and reduce state costs, but would also result in denying support for the poor. This has sparked great controversy and a heated debate.

Good for you. Economic migrants who don't want to contribute are not needed. We see way to much of it here in Europe. Why import people to live on welfare here, when we have too many poor and strugling people ourselves already?

If you're just living off of Govt handouts in a country that's not your own, maybe it's time to pack your shit and go home. Have some dignity.

good honesty everyone wants to come here and so we should absolutely take the cream of the crop

You'd think this was already put in place, since it's common sense. It's really weird that you'd let ungrateful immigrants leach of the welfare system while veterans are living on the streets. (I'm not saying that all or even the majority of immigrants are bad or anything, the government should always look after their own citizens first, then maybe if there are enough funds it could help others not the other way around.)

Isn’t welfare supposed to be TEMPORARY financial aid?

Nice. Some may not like it but this is the beginning of an end to the loopholes.

Cant wait to see the pivot from being angry about illegal immigration changing to less legal immigration altogether.

Well .... yeah ... why is this a controversy? What took so long for this to become a thing?

I'm not a fan of this rule actually. I don't want to stop legal immigrants from coming here and legal immigrants on welfare is not a problem we are facing right now. Just stick with keeping out illegal immigrants and working to get them documented and vetted if they want to be part of America and assimilate to the greatest country in the world.

difference in headlines is hilarious. the problem is see with people wanting to assist immigrants financialy is that liberals are very generous but with other people's money, and at the expense of America's poor. studies show liberals. on average are stingy on helping. but instead yell "the government should do something" they would not mostly do"hands on" or want much to do with an immigrant, except as a servant that they underpaid. https://www.thefiscaltimes.com/2014/10/17/Who-s-More-Generous-Liberals-or-Conservatives

This is a revision of an older rule. Besides if we can't fix our poverty problems we don't need to take on those poor from other countries.

this new public charge rule is not new at all that's the way it used to be people had to prove they could live without welfare or they had someone to support them. what happened? Liberals happened!

Good. We need to fix our society and welfare systems so that we are rehabilitating those who can be before we start importing more drain on the system. No more vets on the streets. Then after we've fixed that, we can start talking about whether we want immigrants to be able to take from a system they didn't pay into...

Imagine Democrats wanting people to come there only to be dependent on the State. Benefits are supposed to be for citizens not strangers. It is citizens taxes paying for those benefits.

I’ve always believed social assistance was intended as a net not a big comfy couch. In its present form it does more damage than good.

This wasn't an issue until LBJ and the Great Society. Prior to the welfare state you had to prove an ability to support yourself and family and lots of people deemed unlikely to do so were rejected and sent home. One in three Italisns went back to Italy. Today it's a far larger burden than ascertaining grit and potential for hard work.
