Kathleen Blanco, Louisiana governor during Katrina, dies at 76

Former Louisiana Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, whose tenure was dominated by the trauma of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, has died from complications of cancer. She was 76. Blanco was the first woman elected to lead the state, serving as governor from 2004 to 2008.

I hope when I die people focus on my accomplishments instead of my gender or skin color. Why if we are so progressive as a soceity is it a big deal when a woman does something? Should it not be the norm and expected?
