California signs into law tighter standards for police use of lethal force

California has enacted one of the country’s most stringent regulations on police use of force. In a ceremony Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 392, which changes the standard for police to justify the use of deadly force from ’reasonable’ to ’necessary. The law, however, does not offer a specific definition of ’necessary’, leaving the interpretation to Golden State courts.

lol, so they changed one subjective word to another subjective word? A model for "Feel good legislation."

Good policy.

Come on, guys. Stop being willfully ignorant. It's perfectly simple. An "unnecessary, but reasonable" shooting is now illegal. An "unreasonable, but necessary" shooting is legal. An "unreasonable, and unnecessary" shooting is indefencible. A fully defencible "reasonable, and necessary" shooting...sorry, I lost my thread...what was I talking about?

With the infrequency of these types of problems nationwide, let alone in California specifically, it would seem to me you would want to work to empower law enforcement and increase it's presence because your anti civil rights and anti rule of law legislation is a huge fail and is getting your citizens killed at alarming numbers. It's time to remove these do nothing left wing politicians and restore liberty and justice in the great state of California. It used to be such a beautiful place with high quality of life and beautiful cities. It had great education and fair taxes all while having a reasonable budget/deficit. Now it ranks among the worst for quality of living, has some of the worst education in the nation, city streets clogged with drug addict/needles and homelessness, insane taxes while going bankrupt, and massive crime while the nation is seeing less. It needs to change!

Basically “necessary” means when a subject is white.

Not sure if this will actually reduce the number of police shootings or not but it is definitely a good sentiment. Would be better if it has teeth.
