Italian PM resigns, accusing Interior Minister Salvini of toppling government

Italian PM Giuseppe Conte has resigned, accusing his interior minister Matteo Salvini of trying to drag down the ruling coalition for personal and political gain. Conte is expected to formally submit his resignation to President Sergio Mattarella later in the day. Salvini has been eager to exploit the right-wing Northern League’s (Lega Nord) growing popularity by initiating some snap elections.

"Far-right" seem to be the modern day equivalent of WW2 Jews. It's all their fault for some reason.

I don't know enough about Italian politics to weigh in here, but I'm so sick of hearing "far-right" in the news.

"The outgoing prime minister said that Salvini, deputy prime minister and interior minister, had betrayed Italian citizens after pulling the plug on the party’s tempestuous alliance with the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) earlier this month. Salvini is eager to exploit the League’s growing popularity by bringing about snap elections. “He is only looking after his own interests and those of his party,” said Conte. “Calling on voters every year is irresponsible,” Conte said, adding that the prospect of Salvini as Italy’s next prime minister was “worrying”. By resigning, Conte has avoided a no-confidence vote sought by the League.Conte, who is usually mild-mannered, upped the ante against Salvini at the weekend, accusing him of disloyalty and being “obsessed” with closing off Italy’s ports to migrants. The row erupted after Conte refused to sign an order banning the Open Arms migrant rescue ship from docking in the island of Lampedusa." ----------- "Giuseppe Conte has resigned as Italy’s prime minister after blasting Matteo Salvini, the leader of the far-right League, as an “opportunist” for triggering a government crisis that could have “serious consequences” for Italy." ----------- "Italy — the third largest euro zone economy...The Lega party favors tax cuts and aims to stop illegal immigration while the Five Star Movement (M5S) promotes initiatives that would extend benefits for citizens. This coalition has been on a rocky road since it first came to power. Some of the tension has been caused by government appointments, the country’s relationship with the European Union, and, more recently, a high-speed rail link."Salvini’s Lega is leading current opinion polls with a rating of around 37%. Lega came to power as the junior coalition partner, but Salvini’s tough rhetoric has helped to boost the party’s popularity in a country where immigration is a key issue. M5S has, meanwhile, seen its support drop and is polling third at 18%. The instability has caused uncertainty in a country that has been plagued by political turmoil. The Italian government, just like other euro zone nations, has to put together its spending plans for the new year by mid-October. The prospect of an early election has led investors to contemplate what sort of economic targets Italy will present to officials in Brussels. The country has one the highest public debt piles globally, above 130% of its debt-to-GDP, and any increase in spending could increase public debt even further — an issue which has strained relationships between Brussels and Rome." So... -The Left wing part of Italy's Gov't seeks to increase benefits to citizens -The Right wing part of Italy's Gov't seeks to cut taxes and crack down on illegal imigration. Italy has the highest debt-to-GDP ratio and there are worries about their debt being increased if the Gov't coalition seeks to go along with the Left wings plans. The ex-PM is calling out Salvini over a political crisis but to what end. Looking at the Italys economy shows that his accusations of political turmoil is just a cop out for standing by and allowing his country to sink in so much debt. He wants you to be outraged and hate the Salvini and the Lega party. However, considering recent events, he doesn't have his priorities in check. Gather what you will from these articles.

And now roll in a bunch of idiots here to comment how good this is. Will not be able to point out Italy on the map. The only thing they read is "far right". So the need to comment and support the far right

The rise of the populist is a direct result and in opposition to globalist hegemony. This has been brewing worldwide for years.

"Far-Right" should at the very least be presented in quotation marks, as that is an editorial opinion which is being presented as a factual statement.

Basically at this point, whenever you see the media or a politician use the term "far-right" you should take a closer look at the story. There's a better than average chance that they're covering for something or trying to distract you from the facts. That's not news regarding politicians, but it's a sad indicator for where the news media is today.

Salvini has the full support of the Italian population. He is what we, from other European countries, would want as our Prime Minister.

He has massive following because he’s seen the destruction and rape of his coastal cities and people, because of migration, that NGOs bring in their thousands. Look at the rape levels, crime and amount of trash left around, graffiti and monuments being defaced and shit on. Tell me that’s enrichment. He wants equilibrium- as we all do in Europe- we are all sick of these invaders ruining our heritage. So, sorry- he will be judged by history as a good man.
