Chrome devs propose Privacy Sandbox to balance ad targeting & user privacy

Google’s Chrome team has proposed a ’privacy sandbox’ designed to showcase ads that publishers can target toward user interests but don’t infringe privacy. As per the plan, an advertiser loading ads on a site will be able to ping a browser for details about a user who accessed a domain. The browser will respond to the API queries with general information of the user, while maintaining anonymity.

What the fuck does this sentence mean? ....the initiative isn’t just intended to promote privacy, it also apparently aims to support the use of advertising in ways that avoid undermining efforts to preserve users’ privacy.
