YouTube disables 200 videos attacking Hong Kong protests

YouTube has disabled more than 200 videos this week, in what has been described as a coordinated effort to spread misinformation about the ongoing protests in Hong Kong. The removals come just days after Twitter said it had suspended more than 200,000 accounts linked to a Chinese government influence campaign against the protests.

Ok so for those of you who are allergic to reading, what is happening is that Google along with Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are taking actions to fight back against China misleading people about the protests in Hong Kong. The social media platforms have noticed that despite being banned in China, information about the protests in Hong Kong were coming directly from China and the information China was sending happens to be misinformation claiming the Hong Kong protesters were nothing but criminals and gangs causing problems and using military weapons to fight back. The Hong Kong protesters on social media have also pointed out the social media platforms were using ad revenue from anti protesting ads backed by China and as a result the following has happened: 1.Twitter on Monday will no longer accept advertising from state controlled media. 2. YouTube was not going to change ad policies but instead just expand its labeling of state backed media outlets so you'll know it's from a country that backs the ad. 3. Google got rid of 210 YouTube channels after it found out these channels were linked to provenly false information about the Hong Kong protesters and how violent they supposedly were. 4. Twitter has suspended 936 accounts proven to be spreading misinformation about Hong Kong from China, while Facebook has removed 7 pages, 3 groups, and 5 accounts.

Anytime YouTube removes things it deems “disinformation” it always seems to be getting it wrong.

we do realize that this is the company that demonized a UK channel because it gave people advise on how to handle idiot cops, while at the same time paying delinquent teenagers who upload videos of them braking the law.. Not to mention all the other things that has come out about Google and their love affair with China

I don't agree with cenorship in any way shape or form. I think these poeple running the anti protest ads and channels are doing a disservice to the free world but if google wants to take actions against them they should do what they did to RT News and just put a disclaimer that these channels my be run or in part by the Chinese government. Also google your quick to jump on the anti democratic protest regarding the chinnese but you wont stand up for free speech for right leaning americns and europeans on your platform. [Golf Clap] Bravo youtube.

well the Chinese government controls a lot of media. so that is why you do not see a lot of famous people supporting the protests. they know it's not good for thier career.
