US consumer spending jumps 0.6% in July

US consumer spending increased solidly in July as households bought a range of goods and services. Consumer spending rose 0.6 per cent last month after an unrevised 0.3 per cent gain in June. This is positive because consumer spending accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity.

With the economy 'jumping' 0.5% one day and 'plummeting' 0.5% the next, it seems this may become a 'boy who cried wolf' scenario if anything major actually happens. I, for one, would probably just tune it out.
