Germany asks Poland for forgiveness while marking 80th anniversary of WWII

As sirens sounded to mark the 80th anniversary of World War II in the small Polish town of Wielun, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier asked for forgiveness from Poland for the war that was unleashed by Nazi Germany on Poland decades ago. Poland had lost about a fifth of its population, including the vast majority of its 3 million Jewish citizens during the war .
