Hong Kong leader says she would ’quit’ if she could

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam made some comments a close door meeting. In a leaked audio she was heard saying she had caused ’unforgivable havoc’ by igniting the political crisis engulfing the city and would quit if she had a choice. She told the business people she has ’very limited’ room to resolve the crisis as it is a national security and sovereignty issue for China.

Lam is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She is correct in saying that the CCP plays the long game, but I do not believe her that the CCP has no plans to send in the troops. The CCP has only ever responded to any public resistance or questioning with violence, like all other authoritarian governments.

Por. Not exactly true. There were protests etc when I was working over there where not even the police showed up. You just don't hear about it outside of China. Things ending in violence from the gov is actually, in reality, quite rare.
