Boris Johnson calls for new general election

British PM Boris Johnson on Wednesday demanded an Oct. 15 snap election following a defeat in parliament at the hands of lawmakers seeking to prevent a no-deal Brexit. However, with the need for the backing of two-thirds of lawmakers, Johnson’s bid for an early election is set to be thwarted initially given a united opposition. A vote on an election is schedule after about 1800 GMT on Wednesday.

Pretty shrewd move, having the public *directly* vote their desire for Brexit by voting for a representative, without it being another explicit referendum.
