Warren proposes Social Security boost of $200 per month

Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Thursday that if elected to the White House, she would expand Social Security by increasing benefits by $200 a month. Warren said she would pay for the Social Security expansion by ’asking the top 2 per cent of families to contribute their fair share’.

We need to stop collecting ss and just finish paying off those that put in and abolish the program already. It is not sustainable and not as efficient as actually saving for retirement. Put the money back in the hands of the people and let them control their retirement outcomes. Some will do worse because of poor decisions and the majority will do better.

I am from a pretty socialist country and I will say this. Don't give people to much free stuff. People get spoiled and it gets very complicated to take it away again when it's first in place. Every year my country, Norway, goes billions in minus and the only thing saving us is oil money. The worst part is that people still think that our country is rich and don't understand that our earnings are less than spending. The oil money was mostly saved up for our pensions. When I look at what our taxes is used for I get really frustrated. So many stupid unnecessary things!

Is my math right? 64 million people x $200 =$12.8 billion A MONTH? OVER $150 billion more per year? And she thinks the top 2% of Americans can't afford to move out of the country? Those CBD oils she's using are laced with something.

abolish it already, that 2/3rds of our trillion dollar budget would be far better spent elsewhere, like back in our paychecks.

How about we kick it to the states and otherwise privatize it?

Taxing the rich hurts the working class too in the long run. Yet that never factors into her shameless vote buying schemes.

First it's the top 2, next 5, and soon 10. Keeps going down the rabbit hole till there is no such thing as rich anymore.

$200/month is just enough for survival for many people. The only thing this solves is increasing the number of people dependent on the Democratic party.

the problem is this social security shouldn't be counted as income because it's retirement you should stop taxing the people that are over 65 years old ...

we needed social security when it was hard to invest in the market and roths and the like. now you can invest on an app on your phone, let people put their money where they want, stop this nanny nation nonsense.

$200 more per month is not enough. How about $500? Surely the ultra rich can afford it, right? Oooh, how about raising the increase to $900? Btw, what's with this talk of "asking" the top 2 percent? What if they said no? Surely she means she's gonna raise their taxes, and if they don't pay, she'll seize their property at gunpoint and throw them in jail, right? That sounds more like the communism I know. And I know because I was born in a fucking communist country and immigrated here to escape that hellhole. So yeah, I'mma pass on this one, Pocahontas.
