Time for richest Americans to pay ’their fair share’ of taxes, says Biden

President Biden said Monday that it is time for corporations and the richest Americans to ’start paying their fair share’ of taxes. Speaking at a community college in Norfolk, Biden made the case to help fund his $1.8T American Families Plan and $2T infra plan. ’I think it’s about time we started giving tax breaks and tax benefits to working-class families and middle-class families,’ he said.

Joe, you've been in Congress 40 years. You wrote the tax code. Are you saying that you passed tax laws that favored the rich?

The top 5% of income earners in America pay 60% of the tax burden. They are paying their “fair share” and then some.

I think if people looked up the stats they might be shocked to see how much rich actually pay. Bidens policy says we should raise taxes because people are dodging tax. So silly. But hey make people jealous of others success. Penalise the compliant because you have incompliance. I have no problem with people being rich. I might have a problem with how some got there. The top 1% pay roughly 40% of all the taxes in the US... an average of 27% federal tax rate. The bottom 50% of earners pay an average of 2% federal tax rate. If we spend less on BS we might be able to balance the budget.

A little trivia....the IRS took in the highest amount of tax revenue ever in 2019, after Trumps tax cuts kicked in.

Increasing tax rate is just lip service. If these rich people are using loopholes to not pay taxes then increase the rate means nothing. Perhaps if the rate was kept at where it is and close loopholes would lead to better results

More Democrat theatrics. Still not giving ppl healthcare, furlough or solving homelessness... but increasing military budget by $20 billion & making grandiose moralising statements.

What is your fair share of what I earn Beijing Biden? A man who has never worked a real job in his life and now he has the balls to say we need to pay our fair share. Your fair share of what someone else earns is exactly zero.

Damn right they need to start paying, I can remember when I was younger the rich used to brag about how much taxes they paid, Now they brag about how little taxes they pay.

Hahaha…. says the senator from the state with more corporations than people because his state lets corporations pay no taxes on out of state revenue… This dude is hilarious… Meanwhile, his old buddy Trump still has 300+ corporations in Biden’s Delaware (which he claims creates lots of jobs… even though most of them just serve as an entity to pass money through to avoid taxes legally and actually employ little or no people). His good friend Bush and their family does the same. His rapist buddy Bill Clinton does the save to avoid paying taxes on all his speaking fees and books. And the list goes on… Biden is a funny man. LMAO. I’m dying.

You know who can afford to pay more taxes? Rich people. You know who can afford good accountants? Rich people... You know who has the money to move their funds to tax havens? Rich people Biden has probably been given the thumbs up by his accountant. This is all talk, smoke and mirrors.

This will not increase tax revenue. Corporations will hide profits overseas and charge customers more. No new revenue to Uncle Joe. As for private citizens, they're smarter than this. An increase in tax rates causes capital flight, money goes overseas. This is what happens when people who have never had a real job attempt to change the economy. Their schemes will not work. And as far as "fair share"...as many have pointed out already, the top earners already provide more than their "fair share". The fairest tax policy would be a flat rate and no "loopholes". FAIR! Which is why it will never happen.

The United States needs to 1. Get rid of the debt. 2. Reform tax code 3. Restructure budgeting 4. Break apart the trusts/monopolies/ogliopolies 5. Stop intetvening on the economy whenever entities in lower rungs of government (including individual citizens) can solve things themselves 6. Stop interest slavery 7. Put the U.S. Dollar on the gold standard It is clear that a distributist approach is necessary for the economy, as both capitalism and socialism are failures. Distributism actually distributes the economy and allows the market to be free.

You cannot tax the super wealthy they will just move out of the country and hide their wealth in a tax haven. Biden is playing a massive con on all those dumb enough to believe him.

Oh cry me a River Biden! We’ll just deliberately cut down our incomes and downsize until little Marxists like you are gone. What is the fair share of what we have invested and worked for that others have not? You all never get it and why you never accomplish anything you think you are trying to by these ridiculous tax hikes.

I'm not rich, but I don't think it's right to just tax only the people who have been successful. It's part of capitalism. How about people just work for a living and not have to rely on handouts?

How utterly myopic of Biden. Personally, I don't begrudge anyone the money that they've earned through hard work, innovation, etc. The ONLY wealthy people whom I can support higher taxes for are "trust fund babies" - people like Paris Hilton - who have never had to earn their fortune, and who contribute exactly nothing to society. Like them or not, people like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg have fundamentally changed the world with the technologies they created. I say, let them keep their money.
