New York prosecutors subpoena Trump’s tax returns

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has subpoenaed eight years of President Trump’s personal and corporate tax returns as part of its investigation into hush money payments. Prosecutors sent the subpoenas last month to Mazars USA, Trump’s accounting firm. Mazars USA has said it will ’respect the legal process and fully comply with its legal obligations’.

Go ahead. Let's make this another democratic delusional nothingburger that gets Trump 2020.

Any time I see the words "Trump tax return" together in a headline I don't even bother anymore. It's the lowest of the low in terms of political ammunition.

Could I please get a solid legal ground for doing this. What evidence do we have that he has done something wrong that an IRS warrant hasn’t found.

It seems to me that the focus on Trumps tax records is politically motivated fishing rather than an investigation of a known or even suspected crime. I can see a point to prosecutors being able to go after tax records etc in relation to an investigation of a crime but I’ve not seen anything to suggest that a specific crime is being investigated (nor even looking into unexplained wealth). It’s a dangerous precedent when the powers of government are used to target people for ideological differences which appears to be the case for most if not all of the investigations into Trump and his associates.

More wasting of time and tax dollars.... but Orange man bad so its all good

I am not seeing any valid reason for this investigation except harassment and Democratic fever-hope.

Why do democrats hate the constitution so much?

Democrats can’t win in the debate room so they go for every inch. You can see them getting more and more desperate to smear the President instead of rantionalizing proper criticism on his pretty mediocre policies. Literally he’s done nothing the Democrats haven’t proposed themselves.

On what grounds? There must be a legal reason to subpoena documents.
