Uber announce on Tuesday that it will begin testing its self-driving cars in Dallas, Texas in November. The vehicles will be operated by human drivers in downtown Dallas to start out, collecting mapping data and capturing driving scenarios which Uber’s engineers will then reproduce in simulation.

It's about time! If we could reduce our auto fatalities by half that's a small town! 20k would still be with us ANNUALLY.

The biggest danger with autonomous vehicles is having to share the road with human drivers. Dallas isn't a bad place to develop this technology in, but European cities and the US East coast are not at all similar, so I think they will end up having to redo some of this work for those areas.
