’Safe’ drinking water poses cancer risk in the US

A new study by the EWG has found that carcinogenic products in tap water may increase cancer risk for over 100,000 US residents in a lifetime. Researchers identified 22 carcinogens found in tap water, including arsenic and radionuclides such as uranium and radium. The study estimates the 22 contaminants are present in 48,363 community water systems in the US, serving 86% of the population.
