California sues Trump administration over fuel emissions rollback

California is leading a joint coalition of 24 attorneys general and the cities of Los Angeles and New York in filing a lawsuit against the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The suit comes after EPA announced Thursday that it would withdraw the 2013 Clean Air Act waiver that enabled California to set its own tailpipe greenhouse gas emission standards.

This issue has at least two big sides. Federal government telling states what they can do. State government forcing its citizens to submit to unfair (and illegal) statutory requirements.

Unpopular opinion. Trump is wrong. This should fall under individual state authority. I understand it makes it easier for manufacturers to produce them, but then they will get a market response from bad policies and see a less competitive car market and much higher prices for citizens in some states and people will buy them elsewhere or demand deregulation.
