European court rejects EU order for Starbucks to pay $33m back taxes

A court in Europe has ruled that Starbucks need not pay up to $33 million in back taxes to the Netherlands, as it had been ordered to do by the European Commission. The EC accused Starbucks and the Dutch government of artificially lowering the corporation’s taxes as part of a deal. The new ruling Tuesday said the EU ’was unable to demonstrate the existence of an advantage in favor of Starbucks’.
