US consumer spending rises just 0.1% in August

U.S. consumer spending barely rose in August and business investment remained weak. Consumer spending edged up 0.1 per cent last month. In another report on Friday, the Commerce Department said orders for non-defense capital goods excluding aircraft dropped 0.2 per cent last month. Core capital goods orders increased 1.1 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
