Hong Kong braces for weekend of mass protests ahead of China’s National Day

Hong Kong is readying itself for a weekend of unrest with pro-democracy protests likely to mount ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic on Tuesday. Thousands are expected to rally in the city center on Saturday after authorities granted a permit for a gathering at Tamar Park, next to the headquarters of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council.
