US tariffs on EU cause markets to fall in Asia

Asia markets joined a global sell-off as fresh worries about trade and the world economy rattled investors. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index dropped 2.2% and Australia’s ASX 200 lost 2.1%. The low came after weak US economic data and a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling paving the way for $7.5bn (£6.1bn) in US tariffs on EU goods.

Ok so according to the Times articles The EU has been subsidizing Airbus and screwing over Boeing as a result of government assistance. The World Trade Organization agrees that Trump has the right to retaliate against EU with tariffs AND that the EU cannot retaliate by starting a trade war. The EU has to either agree for a settlement deal or Trump can choose within the rules of what he gets to tariff due to winning the case. This isn't a bad thing by Trump, this started back in 2006, Trump is just reaping the benefits of it. How much of a benefit we will get depends on what Trump decides of either taking the settlement or using tariffs on specific goods from the EU.

Ahhh I love fewer American jobs, more outsourcing of American jobs, and higher prices for American consumers! Good job Mr. President!

So the US wins cases in the WTO and the Euros simply threaten to raise their trade barriers EVERYONE acknowledges are already high. What purpose does the WTO serve if it doesn't settle such naked favoritism by trade partners? The EU already taxes the hell out of our ag exports or outright bans them for bogus environmental reasons. The Europeans, like China, live or die on exports, not the US.

If the Fed keeps lowering the interest rate T bills will be worthless. That will mean a hit on US borrowing power. The R word looms.
