EU courts can now force Facebook to remove ’illegal comments’

The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled that courts can now order Facebook to remove user comments deemed illegal. The decision comes after a politician sued Facebook Ireland, in a bid to have an insulting comment removed which she believed was harmful to her reputation. The ruling stipulates that material deemed illegal be removed in the host country, with worldwide access limited.

When you give the government power over your discourse, it will silence you.

And just who exactly are the arbitrators of what is illegal? How does the EU award itself jurisdiction over what I would post on my sisters FB page In Belgium whilst I live in New Zealand?

The EU also holds all of Hungary as a slave nation (They stripped them of all voting power while still holding full jurisdiction over their laws) so who gives a fuck what those actual fascists think?

Too bad the EU can only enforce its laws inside its own borders. They already ruled that Google could only be forced to work within the EU's geographic sphere.
