White House subpoenaed as part of impeachment inquiry

Three Democratic committee chairmen of the House of Representatives said on Friday they had subpoenaed the White House for documents related to their impeachment investigation. Rep. Elijah Cummings, Adam Schiff and Eliot Engel said they were forced to issue the subpoena after the White House failed to produce documents they requested in a Sept. 9 letter.

Voter backlash on this bullshit could really make Trump's second term interesting. Imagine a Republican majority in the House and the Senate and The Donald cracking the whip.

Subpoenas or letters requesting someone's presence. One can be taken to court, the other can be laughed off. The latter is what the Dems are actually doing! Fake news

I must have been absent on that day in civics class, just wondering how can you have a "formal impeachment inquiry" without a vote in the House?

Everybody knows this is a made up hoax, even the democrats. But democrats will accept anything to get rid of Trump. Now that’s hate over love.

There are absolute grounds for taking these Dems to court for abuse of power. They are not investigating any specific crime. They are merely on one fishing expedition after another. The house should be held to the same standards as law enforcement. They should not be allowed to sopena anyone they likd unless they have evidence of a crime.

SO far Trump has never used executive privilege which all other presidents have done so in the past. I bet this will be the first time he uses it and forces the democrats to back up their accusations in court

Subpeonaed for what? The left isn't moving forward with the impeachment process so what weight does the subpoenas have?

House Rules are not the same as constitutional requirements. The majority party whether, Republican or Democrat, has the power to modify house or senate rules of procedure as they see fit. There is nothing in the Article I of the U.S. Constitution requiring the House of Representatives to first hold a formal vote before launching a formal impeachment inquiry. This exercise of majority discretion is very similar to the senate doing away with a 2/3rds majority requirement to confirm Supreme Court Justice nominees and simply going with a majority vote.
