China breeding ’polar bear sized’ pigs

Farmers in China are reportedly breeding pigs as big as polar bears to combat pork shortages. An example of this is a pig weighing 500 kilograms (1,102 lbs) reared in Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi province. High pork prices are prompting farmers to raise pigs to reach an average weight of 175 - 200 kilograms, higher than the normal weight of 125 kilograms.
