British family decries treatment by US after ’accidentally’ crossing border

A British couple and their 3-month-old son are being detained in a federal immigration facility in Pennsylvania after they say they accidentally strayed across the US-Canada border. The family said they blundered into Washington state while trying to avoid an animal in the road on the Canadian side and have since been ’treated like criminals’ by their US jailers.

So they claim that they were driving on a *Canadian* road within *Canada*, animal jumped in front of their vehicle so they swerve AND SUDDENLY they are in the US on an *American* road and Border Patrol swoops out of nowhere because they were just waiting for them. I don't believe it. They were trying to sneak into the US.

Why are the two articles between NPR nd Washington Times so glaringly different? NPR says small family of 3, WaTi says a group of 7, 2 of whom had already had a failed attempt. NPR said the Americans refused to return them to Canada, WaTi says Canada wouldn't accept them back. WaTi also says they were filmed carefully navigating a border ditch on purpose. Somebody is lying, and I suspect it's NPR.
