Trump slaps sanctions on Turkey as US troops prepare to leave Syria

The United States slapped sanctions on Turkey on Tuesday as it demanded an end to its deadly incursion against Syrian Kurdish fighters, accusing its NATO partner of putting civilians at risk and allowing the release of Islamic State extremists.

I am fine with this. The US should not be responsible for the Kurds or Syria.

Good use other forms of executive authority.

Sounds like a good plan to me. The US should not be involved there.

I cant agree with Trump on this decision. We abandoned the Kurds in this area and gave Turkey control over thousands of ISIS fighters. Not even for the goal of moving our troops out of Syria, simply moving them out of the way so Turkey could invade. We lost one of our two actually trustworthy allies in Syria or at least hampered relations with them.

Please continue to push back against neocons in both parties. Do proceed to remove all troops from Syria though, as well as Afghanistan.

The whack-a-mole hammer of tariffs. Hundreds of men, women and children slaughtered and all Trump has is economic sanctions that mean little to Turkey. They have already set up an arms deal with Russia. Erduon had barely hung up the phone with Trump and Turkish forces were gunning down civilians.

What sanctions is he putting on those people at the Kentucky gun range? Their explosions looked quite menacing!

Trump is looking weaker and weaker. The US has literally no power in the world now. Sanctions? A long term and demonstrably ineffective strategy that has failed in virtually every case. It makes me both angry and sad that people are dying because a petty wannabe dictator has no idea of what his lack of intelligence is bringing about. The consequences are going to dire.

Turkey and Syria is honestly complicated. Beyond that though, economics is the sword Trump knows how to wield. What I cannot understand is his need to pull our presence in Syria just to deploy in Saudi Arabia. Makes no sense.
