Judge blocks Trump rule limiting green cards for poor immigrants

A federal judge in New York on Friday temporarily blocked a Trump administration rule that would deny residency to aspiring immigrants deemed likely to require government assistance. Calling it ’repugnant to the American Dream’, Judge George Daniels said that the government failed to provide ’any reasonable explanation’ for why the definition of public charge needed to be changed.

We need less people on welfare services. I say this serves as a good encouragement to look for better work and proffessions.

All these headlines are missing a word; illegal or Alien or even undocumented....why else do you need a green card? Propaganda from MSM. They’re trying to redefine the word immigrant to include illegal.

Judges are meant for laws of the citizens of that country, not to dictate the policy of immigration into the United States. The judges don't represent those who are coming into the country from a foreign one.

It's not repugnant! It's entirely the opposite! He's trying to encourage them to become self sustainable and more of a benefactor for America instead of taking advantage of the systems from the benefits of others!

Green card here. Needed to prove I wasn't a drain on society by guaranteeing I could subsist on (I forget the number but it's irrelevant here). I could. I wasn't allowed to work until my green card was approved. I didn't. I paid my dues. I contribute over $8000 every year from overseas to the economy. I work in a profession that is so undersubscribed that my employer is currently offering H1-B visa support. Want my opinion? Then you are not a liberal. Just saying.

How bout an aptitude or skills test then. Just because they're monetarily poor might not be enough to go on but if they can prove they want to be here and make a difference in the work force this would be a good rubric.

he needs to end the h1b program. giving good jobs to foreigners has negative ripple effect to all people of similar and lower economic status because slightly less qualified AMERICAN candidates would have been hired instead and then their previous jobs would have created new jobs for even less skilled workers and so on. H1b is very bad for Americans.

This will be appealed and overturn. It's entirely within Executive discretion.
