Japanese Emperor Naruhito formally proclaimed his ascendancy to the throne on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from more than 180 countries. Naruhito became emperor and his wife Masako became empress on May 1, but Tuesday’s ’Sokui no Rei’ was a more elaborate ritual. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe delivered a congratulatory speech before assembled dignitaries.
So wait. He could’ve failed to claim ascension to the throne?
Good. Glad to see the world's oldest monarchy continue, even if it is just ceremonial.
Emperor? I guess if the UK can still have a queen....
Emperor Naru(hi)to! Believe it!
This is the start (sort of) of the Reiwa era, correct? Bummer, I really enjoyed eating at the Heisei Japanese restaurant near me... wonder if they will change their name now?
It would be interesting to me, and I think I'm the only one, if the Royal families in Europe married into the Royal families of the East.
Royalty in modern times seems so backwards... what is so special about this dip-shits bloodline that it allows them to rule over people. I wish the whole world would kick these BUMS to the curb and make them get a job like everyone else.
It must be really cold there, look how many blankets they're wrapped on!
