Chicago teacher strike enters fourth day; highlights support staff shortages

In Chicago, the teachers who have been out on strike since last Thursday are seeking commitments for support staff hiring alongside other demands including higher pay and affordable housing citywide. Unions for such employees say support staff often are a lower priority when budgets are tight, but their absence can have profound effects on student learning and teachers’ work.

I hope this strike encourages home schooling as a solution for thousands of families.

We should get rid of teachers union and base their pay on the average test scores of their students. Im all for certain unions but the teachers union has a history of covering up abuse and has more of a concern with protecting teachers then students. EDIT: As a side note we should also do away with any sex ed and LGBT education to. Sex, Puberty, and sexual orientation should be left for parents to teach their kids when they're good and ready.

I used to think teachers were the real heroes because that's what they taught us. Now I realize there are only a handful of teachers who really make a difference. The importance of teachers is inflated and perpetuated by.... you guessed it... teachers.

Homeschool your kids. Why pay teachers more to teach common core and reinforce confused gender identity politics.

I don't ever want to hear another teacher talk about the importance of education when they keep students out of class while they strike. Next time the music department needs money, take it out of the teachers' pay.

I bet if they wanted teachers to get guns there would be 100 percent support for the strike.

Well you know what they say, if you're not making enough money, don't show up for your job that pays by the hour. Fuck the students you're trusted with sharing knowledge to. They're probably going to add extra days added on to the school year because these "teachers" think this is the best way to protest this.
