Bernie Sanders pledges to legalize marijuana nationwide via executive action

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders aims to legalize marijuana nationally and use tax money from sales to boost business creation and economic development in areas disproportionately hit by current drug laws. The senator says he will take executive action to declassify marijuana as a controlled substance in his first 100 days, then work to pass a bill making legalization permanent.

Soooooo a note to all Democrats and Republicans for that are not running for king. This is not how our government works. You can't just decree that states legalize things. With that said, I hope all states choose to legalize.

Bernie, please let it go. Quit politics and just go enjoy what is left of your time on the 3rd rock from the sun. I honestly don't care about your policies one way or another--just go live your life.

I don't see a problem with legalization. The problem is, he already decided how to distribute the tax - opening it to corruption in the tax system already full of crutches and loopholes.

we legalized it in califirnia and i honestly regret it now. our beaches now reek of weed. they need to pass stink laws in tandem with legalization so us non-pot smokers don't have to smell it every where we go. Also they need zoning laws for distributors. there is a pot distributor in the same parking lot as my child's dance school and right next to a gymnastic studio for children. the parking lot is literally 2 buildings for kids and 1 pot distributor. the parking lot is constantly busy, not from the 2 schools, but from the distributor, and i can confirm it does indeed attract some shady individuals.

Deschedule it. Problem solved. The states will take it from there. No executive order required.

Bullshit. He’ll tax the hell out of it via executive order, and the black market will remain.

He'll promise anything for a vote. Sad thing is there are people dumb enough to vote on this alone.

After a century in the public sector, Bernie Sanders demonstrates that he still doesn't understand how laws are passed.

How did I miss this. This is great news,a majority of Americans have agreed on legalization for about a decade now. At that point, it should be federally legal, then states can put in the resources to ban it or regulate heavily like alcohol. States rights matter, but we shouldn't force the federal government to take the nonsonse position and force the citizenry to deal with it or change it.
