Vatican synod proposes ordination of married men as priests

An assembly of Catholic bishops from the Amazon on Saturday proposed that married men in the remote area be allowed to be ordained priests. The proposal, known as a synod, passed by a vote of 128 in favor and 41 against. Pope Francis will consider the proposal in a future document of his own.

Allowing them to marry (presumably women only) seems way less controversial than covering for known pedophile priests. Just saying.

Never understood the Catholic reasoning behind that ban.

in the bible the apostles and other devoted were told to leave their families and posessions and go out and preach. so if your vocation is to preach.. i.e a preacher or preist you are supposed to forgo other earthly things. family life is a vocation... priesthood is another . priests are not supposed to be distracted by family life but are supposed to be there for their parishioners. . doesnt always work out that way but that's the theory

We already have married priests. Just not in the Roman Rite.

Sure fuck it... We need as many families as we can get. Biblical or otherwise.

Pope Francis "considered" it when he came up with the idea 20 years ago.
