Thousands join Pride parade in Taiwan

Thousands marched in the streets of Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, in a Pride parade on Saturday. This is the first such parade since the island legalized same-sex marriage in May. President Tsai-Ing-wen and her ruling Democratic Progressive Party have supported the event, which ended outside the Presidential Office.

Never understood the Leftist insistence that this must be celebrated by everyone in the West. Or why it's "good".

The original meaning of a pride parade was to draw attention to the persecution that those in the LGBT community faced. Most people do it now because they just want to have fun, but the original meaning is similar to the marches of the civil rights movement. Also, some of the punishments that gay people underwent were barbaric. A little backstory, During world war two, Alan Turing was instrumental in the cracking of the enigma code and gave the English the means to win the war, as well as being the father of modern computer science. The enigma code was how the Germans sent their messages, at the time, it was unbreakable. Turing created a computer, well, what we would call a computer, the first man to invent the concept of algorithms and computation. Though he was not the first to invent a "computer", that was in the 1800, where a "computer" simply meant a person counting. Anyway, after the war Turing's files were classified and redacted and all that stuff. He went to work on his computer, but, here's the thing, he was a homosexual. Which doesn't have any bearing on his achievements, it's what happened when he was discovered to be one. He could have gone to prison, or he could choose chemical castration. He chose chemical castration so that he could continue his work, but the drugs had an adverse effect on his mental state, and in 1954, he laced an apple with cyanide and ate it, killing himself. He was only 41. The point I am trying to make is that pride parades were used to try and change these laws, I don't care for what they are now, but in countries that still kill members of the LGBT community, they are necessary. I don't particularly understand the hate that I see in these comments and in this community against the LGBT community, or the left, or anyone who disagrees with your views. We should talk to one another without the need for throwing insults and ad hominem arguments, just be civil and if someone is being rude, call them out on it.

I love all the bigots in the comments. Straights have never been murdered and tortured for being straight so stfu. Congrats to Taiwan's LGBT community and may Human Rights continue to spread to others across the world. May one day there be no more fear of governments and bigoted people threatening the lives of the LGBT.

I hate how pride parades are always so gross. They should have to follow public indecency laws like everyone else and get fined for violating them regardless of how many liars will claim it's homophobic or harrassment. Have all the parades you want but keep your clothes on and don't hump each other in public. Those antics make your community look bad.

Poor Taiwan doesn't know that this will now be followed by a 'progressive' child castration movement. Legalizing marriage was the last reasonable point in the west before the LGBTLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ movement went full degenerate/pedo mode.
